Revision Rhinoplasty in Seoul, Korea
Revision rhinoplasty corrects problems after a previous nose job — implant show-through or movement, infection, deviation, asymmetry, scar tissue or a short, contracted tip. Scar capsules are released and the structure is rebuilt with rib cartilage, donor cartilage or dermis.
- Procedure time
- About 1–2.5 hours
- Anesthesia
- IV sedation or general anesthesia
- Time in Seoul
- 7–9 days in Seoul
- Recovery
- Splint off around day 7

Who is Revision Rhinoplasty for?
- Your implant has shifted to one side or moves when touched
- Infection or scarring has pulled the tip up and shortened the nose
- The skin over the bridge or tip has thinned and the implant shows through
- The result of a previous operation looks unnatural or out of proportion
How Revision Rhinoplasty works
Every revision is different, so planning starts with what went wrong: the implant, the cartilage support, the skin or scar tissue. We review your earlier surgery records and CT scan where available.
Hardened scar tissue and capsules are released so the skin can stretch again. A short or contracted nose is then lengthened with a septal extension built from strong rib cartilage, and thin skin is protected with dermis or fascia.
Revision surgery is technically demanding and usually uses an open approach. Expectations need to be realistic: the aim is a healthier, better-supported nose, and very damaged skin may limit what can be achieved.
Our approach to Revision Rhinoplasty
Release of scar tissue
Stiff capsules and scar bands are released so the nose regains some flexibility.
Rib cartilage framework
A shortened septum is extended with rib cartilage so the tip does not pull back up.
Skin protection
Dermis or fascia is placed where the skin is thin to reduce show-through and skin damage.
Revision Rhinoplasty: step by step
- Records and imagingWe review previous operations, implant type and CT findings.
- Removal and releaseThe old implant and capsule are removed and scar tissue is released.
- ReconstructionThe septum and tip are rebuilt with rib, ear or septal cartilage and dermis as needed.
- Closure and splintThe nose is closed, splinted and followed closely during healing.
Graft materials for revision rhinoplasty
| Material | Characteristics | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Autologous rib cartilage | Plentiful and strong | Contracted nose, major septal extension |
| Donor rib cartilage | No harvest scar | Patients who prefer to avoid a chest incision |
| Ear cartilage | Soft and curved | Tip volume and camouflage |
| Dermis or fascia | Soft protective layer | Thin skin or previous show-through |
Risks and side effects of Revision Rhinoplasty
- Prolonged swellingScarred tissue swells more and for longer than in a primary operation.
- Cartilage warping or resorptionRib cartilage can bend and donor grafts can partly resorb; carving technique reduces this.
- Need for further surgeryComplex noses occasionally need a minor touch-up once healing is complete.
All medical procedures carry risks. Your surgeon will review your medical history, explain the risks that apply to you and discuss alternatives before you decide.
Revision Rhinoplasty recovery timeline
| When | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Day 0 | Surgery and rest in a private recovery room; most patients return to their hotel the same day. Cold compresses start straight away. |
| Days 2–3 | Swelling and bruising usually peak. Keep your head elevated, walk gently and avoid alcohol, saunas and exercise. |
| Days 5–7 | Check-up at the clinic; stitches, splints or tapes are removed where used. Most patients are cleared to fly after this visit. |
| Week 2 | Most visible swelling has eased and many people return to desk work and light make-up. |
| Months 1–3 | Residual swelling keeps settling and the shape refines. Strenuous exercise is usually resumed after 4 weeks. |
| Months 6–12 | The final result is generally assessed at this stage. We follow up online after you return home. |
Aftercare tips
- Sleep with your head raised for the first 1–2 weeks.
- Do not wear glasses on the bridge for about 4 weeks.
- Avoid blowing your nose, swimming and saunas for 2–4 weeks.
- Stop aspirin, fish oil and vitamin E 1–2 weeks before surgery unless your doctor says otherwise.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 2–4 weeks; both slow healing.

Revision Rhinoplasty FAQ
How long should I wait before revision rhinoplasty?
Usually at least 6 months after the previous operation, so swelling has settled. Infection or exposure of an implant may need earlier treatment.
Do I need rib cartilage for revision rhinoplasty?
Not always. Rib cartilage is preferred when strong support or a lot of cartilage is needed, such as for a contracted nose.
Can a contracted nose be fully corrected?
It can usually be lengthened and softened significantly, but the degree depends on skin quality and scarring. We explain realistic goals after examination.
