Who is Nasal Implant & Foreign Body Removal for?

  • You have redness or inflammation around a nasal implant
  • The implant shows through the skin or moves
  • Old fillers or other foreign material have changed the shape of your nose

How Nasal Implant & Foreign Body Removal works

Removing an implant is straightforward in itself, but what happens to the nose afterwards needs planning. The pocket left by the implant can contract, and the bridge may look lower or uneven.

If there is no active infection, the capsule can be treated and the bridge restored with dermis or cartilage in the same operation. If infection is present, the implant is removed first and reconstruction is planned once the tissue has settled.

Hardened filler or foreign material is removed as completely as safely possible after its extent has been checked.

Our approach to Nasal Implant & Foreign Body Removal

  1. Condition-based plan

Immediate or staged reconstruction is decided by whether infection is present.

  2. Same-day restoration

Where safe, dermis or cartilage is placed to keep the bridge from sinking.

  3. Foreign material removal

Old filler and hardened material are located and removed as far as safely possible.

Nasal Implant & Foreign Body Removal: step by step

  1. Examination and imagingWe check for infection and locate the implant or filler.
  2. RemovalThe implant and, where needed, its capsule are removed through an incision inside the nose.
  3. RestorationDermis or cartilage is placed to support the bridge if the tissue allows.
  4. Splinting and follow-upA splint is applied and the tissue is monitored as it heals.

Risks and side effects of Nasal Implant & Foreign Body Removal

  • Bridge settlingWithout restoration the bridge may look lower once the implant is out.
  • Residual materialVery diffuse fillers may not be removed completely.
  • Delayed reconstructionWith active infection, a second operation may be needed after 3–6 months.

All medical procedures carry risks. Your surgeon will review your medical history, explain the risks that apply to you and discuss alternatives before you decide.
